STAMP FACTS

 

1)  India is the First country in the world, where postage stamps were printed in two colours, In 1854  four annas stamp has frame in red colur and portrait of Queen Victoria in blue.

2) Generally stamps are printed on paper, bur Soviet Union has printed stamps on aluminium, Bhutan on plastic, steel, satin, silk, and card board, Tonga, Qatar abd Burundi on thin gold foils. Bhutan has issued stamps on gramaphone records also. Bhutan also issued a 14 ct. gold polised stamps of 140 nu.

3) Till a few years ago, stamps were the main source of income of the country Monaco.

4) India is the First country to use an aeroplane to carry mails. - from Allahabad to Nain in 1911.

5) India was the First country to send two hens along with 189 letters in a rocket from Calcutta, which landed on an island a few kilometers away. The letlters put in that are called Rocket Mails and each of them is now worth thousands hundreds of rupees.

6) Tonga,  Malts, Malaysia, Gibraltar have issued stamps in the shapes of maps, heart, eagle, banana, coat of arms, coconut, Thesselly issued hexagonal stamps in 1889.
